VISITORS will have to watch out for a dragon and a bear at this week's Denbigh and Flint Show!

However, they need not worry as they are the creations of talented chainsaw carver Ian Williams.

This Thursday will mark the welcome return of the show, which was last staged at The Green, near Denbigh, back in 2019.

Mr Williams, who hails from Ruthin but now lives in Flint Mountain, has been creating a dragon to mark the return of the event, which he will be taking along to the showground.

It was almost finished earlier this week and speaking on Monday, he said: "I have got today and tomorrow!

"I have got one leg to do on the back and the tail."

Mr Williams was a regular feature at the Denbigh and Flint Show prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, attending the last four events.

He is looking forward to returning to the showground and he added "I will be taking a few things with me."

As well as the dragon creation, one of these will be a five-foot bear he has made!

Mr Williams will be conducting demonstrations on site during the day and he is planning on carving two creations, to show people just how it's all done.

"I'm thinking of doing a couple of owls in flight," he said.

For the other item, he will throw it open for the crowd at the show to decide.

"Something that can be done in half-an-hour," he added.

Mr Williams, who was a fire officer for 30 years prior to his retirement, learned all about the use of chainsaws from an early age.

"All my carvings are made from trees which have either fell naturally or need to be felled for woodland management purposes," he added.

"I try to make the trees come back to life with all of the beauty of the wood showing through."
