WHAT a village show it turned out to be!

The young people of CFfI Nantglyn’s Young Farmers Club have been praised for showcasing the best local stock and agricultural activities, food and drink at its 70th celebratory show last week.

In the first show following the Covid-19 pandemic, a record number of people came through the gates to savour the delights of the home, garden and farm produce sections, together with the traditional agricultural beef, dairy, sheep and lamb competitions.

Three generations of farming families supported the agricultural competitions showcasing quality stock with fierce competition in some of the classes.

Judges on the day were impressed with the standards.

“We have been astounded at the support we received,” said Eleri Jones, CFfI Nantglyn Show secretary.

“People from far and wide arrived through the show gates with a handful travelling hours to attend because of historical family links to see for themselves the celebratory 70th show.

"A special CFfI Nantglyn show photo exhibition of bygone years had been prepared thanks to Nantglyn History’s Project, which proved extremely popular.”

The annual dog show proved popular again this year, and in a change to the usual end of day event, a family picnic was held following the children and young people’s hive of activity at the sports competitions.

The wonderful sunshine of the day was welcomed by everyone who had keenly awaited the social gathering of the show day, following the doldrums felt during the isolation of Covid-19.

Eighty-year-old show president, Trefor Williams, Garnedd, who recalled the first CFfI Nantglyn show in 1949, was delighted with the day’s event.
Trefor said: “Show officials have put on a fantastic show.

"Our heartfelt thanks goes to the team, all working voluntarily, Geraint Lloyd, Lona Roberts, Leah Davies and Eleri Jones.”

As a four-year-old schoolboy viewing the show through the classroom window of Ysgol Nantglyn, Trefor was also delighted at the young people of Nantglyn Young Farmers Club for their commitment and efforts in arranging the event.

Eleri Jones added: “We all gathered the following day and on the Saturday to rearrange the show field and marquee in preparation for a celebratory 70th show two-course dinner."

Banners, balloons, bunting, tablecloths and flowers were introduced to the marquee transforming the produce and food tent to a wonderful setting for over 100 people with links to the show over the years, with live music from Morgan Elwy a’r band, plus a bar.

CFfI Nantglyn ensemble began proceedings by entertaining dinner attendees with an array of Welsh songs.

“We were invigorated by the celebrations during the dinner, albeit there were very tired bones on Sunday,” said Eleri Jones.

“We had a wonderful evening, and special thanks goes to not only the young people themselves, but to parents, and show friends and supporters for their stalwart efforts.

“As always we are grateful to a lot of people for their support, including judges on the day, and especially to Caeau Glasmor field owner at Nantglyn, Mr Glyn Jones who kindly support us annually, together with the Bodeiliog family from Groes for allowing us to use their field for parking.”
