YOU can't pull the wool over the eyes of a community initiative!

Hwb Pentredwr, near Llangollen, and Gwlângollen have been working hard to raise awareness of Welsh Mountain Wool - and this produced success at the Denbigh and Flint Show!

At last week's show, the Hwb Pentredwr stand, supported by Gwlângollen, won a first prize.

The prize winning Hwb Pentredwr stall was manned by Rhys and Siân Hughes and Cath Jones.

Gill Britten, of Gwlângollen, played a significant role in the preparation of the Hwb Pentredwr.

Gill had her Gwlângollen stand in the Farmers Union of Wales tent, which also received recognition.

Sian Hughes, Hwb Pentredwr project coordinator, said: "We are currently trying to highlight the issues in relation to the underused and undervalued asset we have here in the hills.

"Namely our Welsh mountain fleece which has been deemed almost useless for many years.

"We are researching alternative horticultural and agricultural uses for our locally produced fleece."

Sian added: "We attended the Flint and Denbigh Show and subsequently won a first for our stand!

"We were thrilled with this recognition, but even more so by the genuine interest from everyone who visited out stand.

"The pure disbelief people expressed at the poor value which is placed on such a versatile and natural fibre was overwhelming.

"We are determined to drive forward our mission to get Welsh mountain wool the recognition it so deserves."

Hwb Pentredwr is a Lottery-funded project.
