AN event to Open Doors to the past will be held in the Vale of Clwyd next month.

After a gap of three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ruthin and District Open Doors event will be returning on September 10 and 11.

For the first time since 2019, people will have the opportunity to visit the buildings which are open over the weekend.

There are now 23 buildings open for 2022

A few of the buildings have never been open before, including the Naylor Leyland Centre on Well Street, the Market Hall in Market Street and St Hychan’s Church in Llanychan.

A number of other sites haven’t been open for several years, including The Star on Clwyd Street, Bathafarn Chapel in Market Street and Rose Cottage on the outskirts of the town.

Some buildings are old favourites of the Open Doors weekend, like Ruthin Craft Centre, Ruthin Castle, St Peter’s Church and Wayfarer Wool shop.

In addition, Ruthin Archives will be open on Sunday, September 11 and people will get the chance to find out all about how to care for and conserve the paper documents that the Record Office hold.

Ruthin Castle is currently undergoing some reconsolidation work on the Medieval gatehouse and there will be a chance to look at this from the exterior.

There will be another opportunity to visit the Masonic Hall situated in the Medieval Cloister building behind St Peter’s Church as well, as a chance to see the completed Wynnstay House.

Mayor of Ruthin Cllr Menna Jones will open the proceedings at 10am on Saturday, September 10 outside The Old Courthouse on St Peter’s Square.
During that morning, the bells of St Peter’s Church will be rung to celebrate Open Doors weekend.

A full list of buildings that will be open for Open Doors Ruthin is available on the Cadw website at www.cadw.gov.wales/visit/whats-on/open-doors

Further information can also be seen at www.opendoorsdenbighshire.org.uk and leaflets are also available in the town.

Following on from this event, Open Doors Denbigh will take place on the weekend of September 24 and 25.
