THINGS are Bloomin' marvellous in a Vale of Clwyd town!

Denbigh in Bloom representatives were left "stunned" when they heard the group had received a gold award at the Wales in Bloom awards.

These awards were recently held in Talgarth.

Denbigh in Bloom chair Lyndsey Tasker said: "Kate Ratcliffe (the group's secretary) and I travelled attended on behalf of Denbigh in Bloom and were not aware of what award we had been given until the announcement was made.

"We were stunned to not only receive a gold, but also to have won best town in Wales for the third consecutive time.

"It has been an extremely difficult year due to low volunteer numbers, extreme heat and having two major competitions to prepare for.

"To gain the awards we did is testament to the unwavering work volunteers have put in."

Over the summer, Denbigh hosted Wales in Bloom judges on a tour of the town.

Lyndsey added: "Special thanks must go to the Streetscene team at Denbighshire County Council who tackled weeds, litter and graffiti.

"We simply couldn't have achieved Gold without them."

In July, Denbigh in Bloom hosted two RHS Britain in Bloom judges.

"We have yet to hear what results we gained in Britain in Bloom," said Lyndsey.

"This will be announced in October at the awards in London."

Next up for Denbigh in Bloom is to continute maintaining the floral displays in the town.

The group's winter plant up will be taking place on October 4 and 6 from 8am.

"We shall be clearing out the summer displays, taking down railing baskets and then filling remaining planters with winter planting," said Lyndsey.

"We would love help from our community to help us to do all this, so anyone wishing to attend, please do!

"It would be advisable to bring some gardening gloves and maybe a hand trowel."

"We also continue to maintain and develop our garden projects - Temple Bar Gardens, Trewen and our latest project which is Lower Park.

"Additionally, we have the roundabout beds."

Next year promises to be a magnificent one for the town.

On Friday, September 8, 2023, Denbigh will play host to the Wales in Bloom awards ceremony.

"This is a huge honour and we fully intend to show all the attendees how beautiful our town is," said Lyndsey.

"We do however need everyones help in order to put this event on.

"Therefore we'll be appealing for help once we get the finer details confirmed."
