THINGS will finally be going off with a bang in the Vale of Clwyd next month - after a three-year wait.

Denbigh Town Council has announced that the fireworks event at Denbigh Castle will be staged next month for the first time since 2019.

A hugely popular part of the calendar, it will take place from 7pm on Saturday, November 5.

Last September, the Denbighshire Free Press reported that the 2021 display was to be cancelled, mirroring the event in 2020.

In 2020, the annual event was called off due to the ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A full meeting of Denbigh Town Council 12 months ago made the decision to also cancel the 2021 extravaganza, with council officials saying the biggest reason for doing so came down to 'safety' concerns for residents.

At the time, a statement from Denbigh Town Council read: "It is with great disappointment that I advise that this year’s event will not be going ahead.

"The decision was not taken lightly. The town councillors had to take into consideration the advice received from their health and safety consultant, fireworks provider, CADW as well as the up to date instructions from the Welsh Government.

"Whilst this is a disappointment for the residents and visitors to Denbigh the town councilors felt that the safety of the councilors, staff and volunteers was paramount.

"Very much hope that we are able to hold the event safely in 2022."

For this year's return, a statement from the council read: "Kindly note that sparklers are prohibited at the event and please make sure that children are supervised at all times.

"Thank you to Lockstock for their annual financial contribution towards the fireworks as well as their roundabout advertising.

"Also a big thank you to all the volunteers from various groups and organisations in town for stewarding the event and for clearing the area on Sunday morning."
