A HOUSING association board has agreed to approve proposals for more than 100 homes in the Vale of Clwyd.

The Adra housing association board has approved a plan for 110 houses on the Gwaenynog site in Denbigh.

A total of 80 of these houses - or 73 per cent - are set to be affordable houses.

A planning application for 110 houses on land opposite the Ysgol Pendref site was approved by Denbighshire County Council back in November and further permission was given for a revised layout plan by the council last month.

Adra will now work with the Castle Green Homes company in order to develop the plan over a period of two-and-a-half years.

It is anticipated that work on the project will be completed by September 2025.

The houses on the site will be a mixture of social rent houses and rents on the market.

Daniel Parry, Adra's director of development, said: "The decision by the Adra board takes us one step closer to realising this project.

"There is a growing demand for affordable housing in this area of Denbighshire, especially during the current economic climate and estate agents in the county are already saying that a large number of people have registered for information about rental properties.

"This latest development by Adra also reflects a firm commitment in its corporate plan to build 900 new homes by 2025, increasing its number of properties to over 7,500, as well as investing £60 million in its existing properties."

When permission was given for the revised layout plan earlier this year, Denbighshire planning committee member Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts welcomed the news.

“This is great news for Denbigh as there is a massive backlog of a waiting list for affordable homes in the area,” he said.

“It is now time for Adra to crack on and develop this site and make sure the people of Denbigh get the homes they deserve in times of great austerity.

“My understanding is the developers want to move quickly, and that will be of great benefit to Denbigh to have decent houses going forward.”
