A FOOTBALLING tribute will take place in the spring to remember a much-loved figure.

A Summer League charity match is scheduled to be held on Easter Sunday, April 9.

It will be in memory of Martin Dyer, who tragically died following a paragliding accident in France last July.

Llangynhafal, the team Mr Dyer played for and managed, will be playing Rhewl, with kick-off at 2.30pm.

It will be followed by an evening event at the Drovers Arms, Rhewl, with live music / DJ, an outdoor bar and marquee, and a charity auction.

All proceeds will go to the Welsh Air Ambulance.

Mr Dyer's son Johan is organising the day.

He said: "Once I put it up, quite a lot of people were saying they wouldn't miss it for the world."

Scores of tributes were paid to Mr Dyer, 55, last summer following his tragic death.

He was a former goalkeeper with the Ruthin Town FC and ahead of the club's Nathaniel MG Cup tie versus Porthmadog, a minute's applause took place.

Ruthin Town chairman Alan Jones said: "I never heard anyone say a bad word about Martin.

"He was a gentle giant.

"He was Ruthin through-and-through."

Mr Dyer left behind his children; Beth, Grace, Johan and Theo and his grandchildren, Freya and Max.

In a touching tribute, Mr Dyer's children said: "We are all truly heartbroken to have lost our Dad.

"He was full of life and laughter, and would drop everything in an instant if any of us needed him. He encouraged us in everything we did, and made us believe we could achieve anything we put our minds to.

"Although our hearts are heavy, the memories we have shared will live on forever.”

A number of items have already been donated to the auction on April 9, including a signed Manchester United shirt.

Johan said his dad would find this funny, as he was a big Liverpool FC supporter!
