AN Evel venture is set to brilliantly top £200,000 in funds raised for worthy causes.

Later in the spring, this year's Ride Cymru Knievels charity challenge event will be hitting roads across the country.

This annual event was the branchild of Jason Lewis, from Corwen, back in 2012 and this year's challenge will take the amount of money raised for charity past the £200,000 mark.

This year's event will start on May 25 and it will see participants travelling over 1,000 miles.

Challenges will range from racing circuits, football and rugby stadiums, and even going down a coal mine!

The current world record holders for the largest gathering of people dressed as legendary 1970s Daredevil Evel Knievel, the Cymru Knievels are returning for their 12th annual event.

The event, which was first planned by Jason Lewis in 2012 to simply raise £1,000 for a charity which had helped a family member, has now gone on to raise over £198,000 and is expected to well exceed £200,000 before this year's event.

The event attracts a collection of like minded fundraising superstars each year.

Jason said: "The 2023 chosen cause is children’s charity NSPCC.

"All entrants must source sponsorship as a condition of entry, wear an Evel Knievel suit, and at their own expense follow a strict disciplined schedule around Wales.

"Supporting ‘Evel Location’ stops include Anglesey & Pembrey Racing Circuits, Glan Y Gors Karting Circuit, RAF Valley, Portmeirion village, Bala Town FC, Arms Park Cardiff, ICC Wales and Swansea Bus & Transport Museum."

This year includes football and rugby competitions between Wales and England Knievels wearing their full helmets and attire!

With a maximum of 50 entrants allowed in the event, the furthest travelled individual is Jee Pender, from Tel Aviv.

The Israel Knievel will be travelling 2,360 miles to the event start in Wrexham on Thursday, May 25, to join fellow Knievels from all over Wales and the UK.

Entrants shall start the event propelled from a life-sized giant ‘Red Energizer Gyro’ which replicates the popular Evel Knievel toy of the 1970s.

In addition to being a tribute to Evel Knievel, this year's event is also in memory of his son Robbie Knievel, a fellow record breaking daredevil, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
