A PLANE which was diverted due to a medical emergency flew over North Wales yesterday afternoon (June 4).

The TUI aircraft was supposed to be taking passengers from Newcastle to Tenerife, departing 40 minutes late at 4.20pm.

But it flew over the North Wales coastline after it was diverted to Manchester so that a passenger could be seen to after being taken ill.

TUI explained the reason behind the diversion, and apologised for any inconvenience it caused.

A TUI spokesperson said: “Due to a customer becoming unwell suddenly on flight TOM1710, the plane diverted to Manchester so they could receive urgent medical attention.

“Customers departed Manchester after a short delay and continued to Tenerife as planned.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay; the health and safety of our customers and crew remains our number one priority.”

A Rhyl resident added: “A TUI plane having an emergency flew over Rhyl at 8,000ft yesterday from Newcastle to Tenerife.

“It diverted to Manchester after turning around near Dublin over the Irish Sea.”
