MORE THAN 20 countries are set to be represented as the much-loved Parade of Nations makes a long-awaited return this week.

The parade, which is part of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, has not taken place since 2019 - due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But this week it will return, starting at 4.30pm on Thursday, July 6.

The parade will head through Llangollen and back to the Eisteddfod ground at the pavilion for an enormous, colourful performance full of song and dance.

As always, hundreds of participants will be joining the parade as Wales welcomes the world to the north Wales town.

There will be plenty of music, singing and dancing on show with competitors and performers from the likes of the USA, Finland, Bosnia, Ukraine, Philippines, Sweden, India, Trinidad and Tobago and Greece all taking part in their national costumes.

A samba band will be at the back of the parade and people are being encouraged to follow them back to the field where there will be mass song and dance performances (entrance is free).

The parade starts at the entrance to the Eisteddfod field on Abbey Road at 4.30pm before making its way across the historic Llangollen bridge.

It will then be heading down Bridge Street, Chapel St, Oak Street, Market Street, East Street, Parade Street, back onto Abbey Road before returning to the field.

John Gambles, a trustee at the festival said, “We are delighted to see the return of the popular parade.  There will be road closures in place until just after 5.30pm.

"It is amazing to see so many countries represented. It is the first parade around town since the COVID-19 lockdowns and we cannot wait.”

It has been confirmed that the A5 road will be open throughout the parade.
