THE Welcome to Wrexham docuseries has received six Emmy Nominations.

The series follows the takeover of Wrexham AFC by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, now co-chairman, in February 2021.

Their journey into understanding how to run a club, the highs and lows of the sport, and learning more about the historic town (now city) was documented in the series.

Welcome to Wrexham aired on Disney Plus (in the UK) last year and brought worldwide attention to the club.

Now the television awards, Emmys, has recognised the docuseries. Welcome to Wrexham has been nominated for:

  • Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program
  • Outstanding Cinematography For A Reality Program
  • Outstanding Directing For A Reality Program
  • Outstanding Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program
  • Outstanding Sound Editing For A Nonfiction Or Reality Program
  • Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Reality Program

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney also took to Twitter to post a statement on how “grateful” they were for the nominations.

It said: “The story of Wrexham has resonated with millions of people because you don’t have to be Welsh or a football fan to be moved by this town. We are so grateful for today’s 6 Emmy Nominations and are continuously honoured the people of Wrexham allow us to tell their story.

“Diolch! Cymru am byth!”

Welcome to Wrexham will be back for a second series.
