DENBIGH will host this year’s Wales in Bloom awards ceremony, which is a “huge honour” for the town.

The town will host the awards on Friday 8, September, with the events 12 months in the planning.

A Denbigh in Bloom spokesperson told the Denbighshire Free Press: “It's a huge honour and a really big achievement to have been asked by the Wales in Bloom organisers to host the day.

“We have a tremendous event planned, with plenty for our guests to see and do.

“We want to ensure they experience the very best our beautiful town has to offer, with a view to encourage them to return.

“It's been an enormous amount of work but we are really excited now as the day draws ever closer.”

The ceremony is expected to welcome 120-150 guests, with events arranged for those who visit the town.

Three volunteer town tour guides have agreed to each take a party out on differing sightseeing walks, and the Denbigh Archives Group is holding an exhibit and talk.

Wireless in Wales is opening for their museum pieces to be viewed, and access to the Castle for 20 visitors will be organised.

A spokesperson added: “Volunteers are extremely eager for our guests to wander around enjoying local shops and then make their way up to Temple Bar Gardens to see the wonderful view from Leicester Terrace, and the amount of volunteer hours which have gone in to create this stunning community garden.

“We've arranged goody bags for each of the attendees, sourcing products from local suppliers such as Bridge Street Candles, Norcoed and T Y Gwyrdd.

“An added little extra for our guests is a beautifully knitted little bumble bee from the Denbigh Knit and Natter group.

“Coincidentally, Knit and Natter have kindly created all our centre table pieces for the event too.

“We've also had packets of seeds donated by the RHS.”

“We've had amazing donations from Denbigh Rotarians, Citizens Advice and Denbigh Town Council in order to put on this fantastic event.

“The support for this event in Denbigh has been overwhelming, and we hope that we do justice in highlighting our wonderful town.”

S4C’s Sioned Edwards, from Garddio a Mwy, will be presenting the awards to the category winners.
