A KNOCKOUT show for children and their families is coming to Denbigh's Theatr Twm O'r Nant in September.

Described as "a knockout production for young audiences that will inspire, educate and entertain," Alfie's First Fight will be on the Family Stage on Saturday, September 16, at 2pm.

Featuring boxing action, surprising plot twists, compelling characters and an inspiring boy-hero, this funny and heart-warming show is guaranteed to pack a punch.

Written and performed by Oliver Sykes, the show is aimed at children aged 5 to 12 and their grown-ups.

Inspired by Oliver’s own experiences growing up without a mum and being coached as an amateur boxer by his dad, the show centres itself around shy twelve-year-old Alfie, as he decides to go in search of his missing older brother, Jacob, when he disappears moments before an all-important boxing match…

On the surface, it’s a simple adventure story. But it’s also about love, loss, family and learning how to fight for what you want.

The production was supported by Manchester Libraries, Manchester City Council, Read Manchester, Stories Of Care, Manchester Children’s Book Festival and Z-Arts, and developed/touring using public funding by Arts Council England.

"If you liked Roald Dahl’s Danny Champion of the World, the books of Jacqueline Wilson and the Rocky Movies, then you’ll love this ‘edge-of-your-seat storytelling" said Manchester Libraries of the show.

And "a positive and gripping story for kids that captures the true drama of the boxing ring," said former boxer Ricky Hatton.
