A SPEED indicator device (SID) is to be put in place in Henllan following issues about how fast some vehicles travel in the area.

Cllr Ian Carrie, of Henllan Community Council, said this had been of particular concern with drivers travelling from Denbigh to the village, and those driving by Ysgol Henllan.

Denbighshire County Council last year loaned a SID on a temporary basis, which Cllr Carrie said proved positive in reducing the speed of many approaching vehicles.

As a consequence of this loan, he said, Henllan Community Council paid to purchase its own SID, which will be adopted by Denbighshire County Council for future maintenance.

This was delivered on July 20, and will be erected before pupils at Ysgol Henllan return in September.

Cllr Carrie said: “We, unlike other councils, are in favour of Welsh Government’s 20mph limit coming in September.

“Unfortunately, there was a delay in receiving the SID sign that we purchased via Denbighshire County Council and it was only delivered to us on July 20.

“The new SID sign will be erected within the next two weeks and shows vehicles exceeding 30mph.

“(After 20mph limit comes into force) it will then be electronically updated to indicate the 20mph speed limit to approaching vehicles.

“The sign will log the speed of any vehicles exceeding this, and the data can be downloaded by Denbighshire County Council’s traffic department at three-monthly intervals.”

This data does not log vehicle registration numbers.

A spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council added: “The council was made aware of speeding concerns in this area and have supported the community council in sourcing a permanent speed indicator sign.”
