A TALENT show offering a £1,000 prize to its winner is set to collect money for charity.

The 'Big C Has Talent' event will take place in September to raise money for Macmillan.

That is a charity close to dedicated fundraiser and Corwen resident Ali Alcock's heart.

It is now eight years since Ali was diagnosed with cervical cancer and went on to endure a five-month battle.

Every year since then, the social worker has set out on a mission and collected over £60,000 for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity which had her back throughout her journey.

Her fundraising efforts throughout 2022 saw her raise over £21,000 for the charity and she was spurred on further by the death of her beloved cousin, Mark 'Weeksy' Weeks, of Johnstown, who lost his battle with a terminal brain tumour in September 2021.

Now, her talent show will aim to raise even further funds for Macmillan during September.

Anyone with a special hidden talent is invited to take part in the show, no matter what age they are.

The qualifying rounds will be taking place in The Blue Lion in Cynwyd on September 15, the AAA in Chirk on September 16, the RAFA Club in Llangollen on September 22 and the Cefn Mawr Social Club on September 23.

The Grand Final will then be held in AAA Chirk on September 29, with a £1,000 prize up for grabs to the winner thanks to event sponsors Dragon Drilling.

The runner-up will receive a weekend stay in the Bethania Cottage in Bagillt (thanks to Gary Long's donation) and third-place will receive a luxury hamper.

Looking forward to the event, Ali said: "I’m so excited this is the first time we have done an event like this and the biggest prize we have ever had. I’m so grateful for the continued support from my lovely sponsors Dragon Drilling, Andrea Ellison who is absolutely amazing and so supportive and also to all four amazing venues!

"I just hope it is successful and that we raise lots of money for Macmillan Cancer Support!"

How to enter/register

You will need to contact Ali via Facebook messenger or WhatsApp and send a 60-second video of you saying your name, which venue you would like your act to be in and information about your act.

There is also a £5 registration fee which can be sent via PayPal, bank transfer or good old fashioned cash!

There is no age restriction, but if children get to the final they must be accompanied by an adult.

The closing date for entering the process is August 31.

The panel will then select which acts are going through to the heats and you will be informed if you have been successful, with the top two from each heat making it to the final.

Ali added: "There will also be two wild card acts One Judges Choice and One Mine and my Bezzie’s Choice!

"For the event nights, doors will open at 7pm and you will need a ticket to enter. They will be £5 and if you bring your ticket with you they will go into a draw. There will also be raffles and a disco at each event!"
