SPOTTING a gap in the market has paid off for a Rhyl fitness instructor.
Zoe Bishop has always been interested in exercise of various forms and over the years has run classes in pole fitness and Zumba, as well as advising on nutrition.
But she later realized that people in the older age groups were not being catered for specifically.
Through her company, “Chic Fitness”, she established classes in Rhuddlan and Trefnant – and the experiment has proved a huge success.

As a result, Chic Fitness has been named as winner of SME Magazine’s Welsh Enterprise Award for over-40s’ wellbeing and fitness company for 2023.
“I’m so glad that I decided to put mainstream classes on the backburner and to specialize in the over-40s,” said Zoe.
“Some of my clientele have been with me for years, and it’s growing all the time. I show people how to have fun when exercising and at the same time help them to achieve their goals.
“Though most of those who attend are women - some of whom are 80 years of age or more - we have some men at all our classes.”
Zoe also gives one-to-one personal tuition and is sometimes asked to provide suitable exercises for residents of residential homes in the area with physical and mental health problems.
“I am absolutely thrilled to have won this award, which I didn’t expect,” she said.
