A SCHOOL in St Asaph closed today (October 2) after a power cut hit the city.

Ysgol Glan Clwyd, on Upper Denbigh Road, said it was forced to shut due to being unavailable to provide its pupils with school dinners.

The power cut also affected Rhyl and Denbigh, and lasted for several hours.

ScottishPower said it was first made aware of the problem shortly after 11.15am, but resolved the issue by 3pm.

An email circulated to parents, shown to the Journal, read: “Unfortunately, due to the timing of this event, no school dinner will be available on site and therefore we will have to close.

“We have been notified by ScottishPower that it could take several hours to be rectified.

“Arrangements are being made with school transport to ensure that buses arrive on site to carry pupils home. We apologise for the inconvenience.

“Due to the power cut the phone systems and emails are unavailable. It is expected that the school will be open as usual tomorrow.”
