Union Wrestling again left local "grapple fans" amazed with a quality contest of wrestling at Theatre John Ambrose, Ruthin.

More than a hundred vocal spectators were in attendance at the latest event, which saw "Slim" Jim Brennan continue on his quest in the Beat The Champion tournament.

Thomas Williams, of Mold, was victorious in the opening bout of the evening by way of knockout, and would face the strong heavyweight Joshua Kemper from Leeds later in the evening in a Round Robin competition.

Kemper, won his initial match 2-0 in straight falls in rounds two and three.

The talented Connor Maxson from Penrith went toe to toe with "Jumping" Jimmy Wright of Gloucester in an exciting back and forth match. Maxson gained victory 2-1 by pinning Wright early in the third round and submitting Wright with a figure-four leg lock half way through round five.

Kemper made short work of local favourite Thomas Williams in the final of the Round Robin competition, making a real statement to his next opponent on December 30 winning 2-0 in rounds two and four.

In the main event, Jimmy Jackson of Bradford, a former European Lightweight champion, was beaten by "Slim" Jim Brennan from Manchester 2-1 in a hard-fought contest.

Jackson, who would be at home on a circus tight rope, was reprimanded by the referee Thomas Phillpotts for the illegal use of the top rope in the fifth round. The win came late in the sixth round with Brennan delivering an underhook butterfly suplex to Jackson followed by the pinfall.

Union Wrestling returns to Theatre John Ambrose on Saturday, December 30, as "Slim" Jim continues his quest in the 4th Leg of the ‘Beat the Champion’ tournament and the pursuit of the £2,000 prize purse, against the Heavyweight Joshua Kemper.
