JUST before the close of the 2023 - a business and two buildings previously occupied by banks were sold in Denbigh.

The former Natwest on Vale Street has been sold along with the former Barclays and Denbigh Chocolate Shop, which was founded by Mary Tetley and her husband councillor Mark Young  on World Chocolate Day in 2009.

Cllr Young said: "What a great, positive way to finish 2023. Reflecting on our time running the Chocolate shop in the warm, welcoming community of Denbigh, the fresh opportunity of new businesses coming to our market town is an opportunity we should grab with both hands.

"We had great support during our 15 years of business here, and we wish to see this continue as the new businesses open, which will give countless benefits to all.

"I offer my gratitude and best wishes to those opening these businesses and investing in our town."

In a message on the shop's Facebook page in June 2022, Mary said: "After much soul searching, it is with great sadness that I have taken the tough decision to sell Denbigh Chocolate shop.
