Trader of the Week: Woman expands beauty business by opening own salon

Tanya Bower, 30, relocated Luxe Beauty & Aesthetics to 183 Wellington Road on Saturday, January 27.

The property was formerly home to Lottie's Hair and Beauty.

Having previously worked in advertising for the Journal, Tanya has run her business full-time for seven years, and has been based at the Razorsedge hair salon on Brighton Road for the last three.

She said she feels that the move into her own salon is the “next step” in growing her business.

Tanya said: “Because I'm just moving from one salon to another, I've not really done a big grand opening, but I was fully booked on the first day so that was a really good start.

“It's been absolute carnage! I've been really busy ever since, and so have the other girls at the salon, which is nice.

“It's absolutely been the right decision. It's meant that I've been able to juggle more things around, and because the other girls are working even when I'm not, the salon is still open.

“I took the shop on thinking I would just paint it, but I ended up having to re-plaster the walls, redecorate everything, have an electrician in, and have all of the exterior painted.

“I've done most of it myself - I've spent a full fortune! But it'll all be worthwhile, and will mean that I can spread my time a little bit better.

“A little mention for my other girls, too – Yasmin, Laura, Eva, and my apprentice Emma - they’re working just as hard as me.”

Luxe Beauty & Aesthetics is open from Tuesday to Saturday, staying open late on Tuesday evenings.
