Cllr Mark Young met with children from Year Four and their teachers at Ysgol Frongoch in Denbigh.
He said: "It was a great pleasure to meet with the Year Four pupils and their teachers.
"These youngsters were inspired after reading correspondence sent out by Denbighshire's County Council which covered the crucial topic of political awareness.
"This term the youngsters have been learning about the Ancient Greeks and as a result, would be looking at democracy.
"With links to this topic of democracy, they gained the idea of having someone in an elected position coming to visit."

The asked him about his job role, why he took the role on, why his role was important, having a "local" voice and local view points and how his role / voice has benefitted the community as well as initiatives/projects in the pipeline.
After the Q&A, cllr Young said: "Wow- what a wonderful experience talking with young members of our community. Their knowledge and passion for democracy and politics really shined through and it was unbelievable that they are only eight or nine years old. We definitely have political leaders here from Denbigh.
"The school can be very proud of the teachers Mrs Blackburn and Miss Featherstone, who have encouraged the pupils to be involved in democracy and for the students responding so positively and enthusiastically to this important topic."
