AN ICON of the darts world will be in Flintshire tonight (June 11) to launch an exciting new sports academy.

John Jones founded Ace of Sports eight years ago after an injury put an end to his own football career.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength offering a range of sessions to young people across north Wales and beyond.

It has also become well-known for its huge darts events - which this year included a face-off between legends Michael Van Gerwen and Phil Taylor at Chester Racecourse earlier this year.

John has always been keen to give back to the area he grew up in and that will take another huge step this evening at around 7pm.

Darts legend Phil 'The Power' Taylor will be on hand to officially launch the Ace of Sports training academy and live sport venue in John's hometown of Mold.

The 8,000 sq. ft site includes a state-of-the art 4G pitch, weights, exercise bikes and so much more to give some of north Wales' future sports stars a place to shine.

Looking ahead to opening, John Jones said: "It’s finally time. There has been lots of work going on behind the scenes for this grand opening.

"We have pushed the event start time back to 7pm to give people the chance to get here from far and wide from 6.45pm onwards."

Sixteen-time world champion Taylor will be on had to cut the ribbon at the event.

Nicknamed "The Power", he dominated darts for over three decades and won 214 professional tournaments, including a record 85 major titles.

Ace of Sports are expecting a crowd of 'around 300 people' to attend the grand opening.
