Ruthin Gaol celebrated its 250th anniversary over the weekend.
The event, which drew more than 100 members of the local community, dignitaries and elected members, marked the start of the 2025 season.
The gaol's new unlocking ceremony, set to become an annual tradition, saw the historic site declared open by Town Crier Austin Cheminais and officially unlocked by mayor Councillor Jabez Redfern Oakes.
Visitors enjoyed free crafts, games in the courtyard, birthday cupcakes, and a display of the county's collection items.
Phillippa Jones, heritage site operations and development manager at Ruthin Gaol, said: "We were thrilled to see so many of our local community come to support us in our opening and join in the celebrations.
"We're grateful to everyone who helped us get the season started with such a bang."
Councillor Emrys Wynne, lead member for Welsh language, culture and heritage, said: "It was great to see such a large turnout at the gaol to celebrate its 250th anniversary.
"The gaol offers a unique experience for visitors, and is an extremely popular attraction, which we are lucky to have sitting right on our doorstep here in Denbighshire.
"There are plenty of exciting activities and events that will be held at the goal and our other heritage sites across the county in the next few months, and I would encourage everyone to take advantage of what’s on offer."

To commemorate its 250th year, Ruthin Gaol has introduced new interactive trails and exhibitions, along with a fresh retelling of the gaol's wartime role as a munitions factory.
Ruthin Gaol is open Monday to Sunday (closed Tuesdays), 10.30am to 4.30pm (last entry at 3.30pm).
