ORGANISERS of a festival in Ruthin have reassured people that this year’s event is still going ahead despite the large-scale roadworks taking place in the town.

Ruthin Festival’s Top of Town event will take place on Saturday, July 4, despite changes being made to St Peter’s Square and the adjoining streets in the town centre.

Work as part of the Levelling Up Fund project in Ruthin begin in early 2026 and continue until December, with Well Street closed until October (not for the entirety of this period, but for four-day periods at a time).

The project involves removing the roundabout at St Peter’s Square and creating an expanded public space for events and café seating, improving pedestrian and cycling routes, and calming traffic in the town centre.

Closures will also be in place for this period between Dog Lane and St Peter’s Square roundabout, and at the rear of The Old Courthouse.

The event on the town square will have bands such as Morgan Elwy, Tewtewtennau, Wee Bag Bag, Buddug, Alffa and Gai Toms a’r Atoms performing, along with schools and choirs from the area.

Festival committee vice-chair Jim Bryan said: “Denbighshire County Council have given an absolute assurance that the festival’s Top of Town event on July 4 will be able to go ahead.

“The local authority communicating with us as the festival organisers is now vital, and they need to complete the areas of the square they have agreed upon in our correspondence in time for the event to go ahead.”

The event starts at 1pm and finishes at 8pm, with entertainment afterwards in the town’s pubs and other venues.

No glass is allowed at the event, and entry is priced at £7 per adult, £3 for secondary school-age children, and free admission those of primary school age.

The festival bar will once again be at the top of Market Street, with all profits going towards the festival.

Ruthin Festival runs this year from June 26 until July 5.
