Denbighshire County Council announced the closure will run from its junction with Ystrad Road to Trewen, starting on August 3.
The work, carried out by Wales & West Utilities, is expected to finish by August 28.
An alternative route has been organised, taking drivers via Ruthin Road, A525 Ruthin Road to Whitchurch Road roundabout, Rotary Road, A525 to Ty Coch roundabout Denbigh and Rhyl Road.
Pedestrians will still be able to use the road during the closure.
The council said the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of both the public and the workers.
The order is effective for 18 months or until the work is completed, whichever is sooner.
