Abersoch hotel named among UK's best at AA Awards 2026

The UK's best hotels and restaurants were recognised at the awards ceremony, held at Grosvenor House in London on Monday (September 21).

Following the awards, the AA said, "Congratulations to all this year's winners on their amazing achievements, surviving and thriving at a difficult time for the hospitality industry."

The North Wales hotel named among the UK's best

Porth Tocyn Hotel in Abersoch was named Hotel of the Year (Wales) at the AA Hospitality Awards.

The AA said, "Located above Abersoch with fine views across Cardigan Bay, Porth Tocyn is set in its own attractive gardens.

"Several elegantly furnished sitting rooms are provided with space set aside for families.

"Bedrooms are comfortably appointed.

"Award-winning food is served in the restaurant, with both a formal option and more relaxed menu offered."

The hotel also holds a three-star AA rating and has been awarded two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026.

The team at Porth Tocyn said it was "difficult to put into words" how much the award meant.

In a post on Facebook, they said, "Porth Tocyn has been in our family since 1948.

"A lot has changed here over those years, but what we’re about really hasn’t.

"We’re still a small, independent family hotel and we care hugely about good food, proper hospitality and creating somewhere people genuinely enjoy coming back to.

"This award belongs to far more people than the four of us who happened to be in London to collect it."

The Porth Tocyn owners thanked the hotel staff, past and present, as well as family and guests.

They continued, "For our little family hotel tucked away in Bwlchtocyn, beyond Abersoch on the Llŷn Peninsula, to be named AA Hotel of the Year Wales is something we are enormously proud of.

"Thank you to the AA for this very special recognition – and thank you to everyone who has played a part in making Porth Tocyn what it is."

The Porth Tocyn website highlights its long-standing family ownership and reputation for hospitality.

The website reads, "Four generations of the Fletcher-Brewer family have developed Porth Tocyn for over 70 years to become one of Wales’ foremost country hotels.

"Sitting on the headland beyond the sailing village of Abersoch, with stunning views across Cardigan Bay and out to Snowdonia, the hotel is furnished with country antiques.

"It exudes a warm & friendly atmosphere which draws guests back time after time."

The hotel features 17 individually designed bedrooms, many with sea views and super king-sized beds.

Porth Tocyn has been among Britain’s top family-friendly hotels in the Good Hotel Guide for more than 30 years.

The hotel's restaurant has also been recognised by The Good Food Guide every year since 1957 and continues to be a key part of the hotel’s appeal.

The website states, "Dining here remains an experience, whether it be stylish in the evening or casual during the day time."

Guests have also praised the hotel on Tripadvisor, where it holds a 4.3 out of 5 rating from 303 reviews.

One guest wrote, "This is a small family-run hotel, which flourishes because of its location, the warmth and friendliness of the staff and the high quality of food and service.

"It is a place where you can do nothing in particular, such as reading, talking to other guests, taking gentle (or tough) walks to admire the amazing views of Tramadog Bay and Snowdonia (Yr Wyddfa), swim in the pool or from the nearby beach, or just sit and take in the views and listen to birdsong.

"We look forward to our next visit to this remarkable place."
