AN INMATE at a Wrexham prison was found dead, an inquest heard.
Shaun Lee Roberts, of HMP Berwyn, died aged 42 on Thursday, October 8.
The inquest into his death opened at County Hall, Ruthin on Monday (October 19).
Coroner John Gittins said a HMP Berwyn prison officer alerted emergency service after he had discovered Mr Roberts unresponsive at 5.30am on October 8.
Mr Roberts was formally identified by the prison officer, and was pronounced dead at 6.06am.
A post-mortem examination was undertaken, but a provisional cause of death has been deferred pending further tests being completed.
Mr Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales (East and Central), said there is a mandatory requirement for an inquest due to Mr Roberts’ death being in custody.
He adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
