DENBIGH Dragons Swimming Club had a magnificent start to the 2024 swimming calendar.

In Holywell Leisure Centre at the Valentine Meet, 12 Dragons took part in 53 races, with ages ranging from nine to 20, including Elsie Croft, 11, who took part in her first competition.

An excellent 20 medals were won, a further 28 top 10 finishes, and 30 Personal Bestswere recorded.

The medal tally was:

  • Morgan Rowlands (20) 3 x Gold – 50M Back, 100M Back, 200M Back
  • Elenid Parry (11) 2 x Gold - 100M Breast, 200M IM. Silver – 50M Fly
  • Niamh Vernon (10) Gold 50M Breast. 3 x Silver – 100M Free, 50M Back, 50M Free
  • Seren Rowles (16) Gold – 100M Back
  • Gwen Hayes (10) Gold - 100M Free
  • Ella Hayes (10) Silver - 200M Breast. 2 x Bronze - 50M Free, 100M Free
  • Saoirse McDonnell (9) Silver - 100M Free
  • Isabelle Owen (11) 3 x Bronze - 50M Breast, 100M Free, 100M Back
  • Mared Parry (12) Bronze – 100M IM

Leila Ashbrook (11) & Sioned Endres (17) also completed the team taking part.

Denbigh Dragons Swimming Team concluded competitive meets for 2023 at two meets, including the Swim Wales Regional Championships (North Wales) held at Llandudno Swimming Centre.

Eight Dragons qualified for this due to the demanding minimum qualifying times to enter.

29 races were competed.

Eva Evans, 16, won two medals – a silver in 100M Backstroke & bronze in 100M Freestyle.

A further eight top10 finishes were achieved by the team with 12 Personal Bests.

The rest of the team were Olivia Bexon, 14, Harriet Goodall, 15, Elenid Parry, 11, Mared Parry, 12, Sioned Endres, 17, Bethan Jones, 16, Seren Rowles, 16.

In December, the Dragons were at Wrexham Waterworld Centre for the Chirk Christmas Cracker Meet.

This was a Level 3 Meet, which is aimed at Regional and Club swimmers and encourages swimmers with no times too who are starting out in their swimming career.

Nine Dragons took part in 32 races, with ages ranging from nine to 17.

There were three swimmers taking part in their first swimming competition – Isabelle Owen, 11, Niamh Vernon, 10, and Dyfan Williams, nine.

Sioned Endres won a Bronze for 100M Backstroke, Seren Rowles secured a Bronze in 100M Breast.

A further 17 top 10 finishes were achieved by the team, including further medals for the competitors who came in the 4th-6th positions.

The Dragons who took part in this meet were Leila Ashbrook, 11, Kate Davies,12, Cerys Dutton, 10, Sioned Endres, 17, Bethan Jones, 16, Seren Rowles, 16, Isabelle Owen, 11, Niamh Vernon, 10, and Dyfan Williams, nine.
