Former Coronation Street star Faye Brookes, who played Kate Connor on the long-running ITV soap, left fans guessing after posting a video hinting at a new role in Manchester.

In the video, Ms Brookes said: "I am starting a new job on Monday.

"I’m doing that really annoying thing where I can’t talk about it yet, but I want to share that I’m going into another job.

"I’m super excited.

"It’s a role I didn’t anticipate, which means I’m even more excited and scared at the same time."

Fans quickly flooded the comments section with questions about a potential return to Coronation Street, which is filmed in Manchester.

One fan wrote: "Faye come back to Corrie street."

Another asked: "Is it EastEnders @faye_brookes?"

A third simply said: "Corrie?"

Her character, Kate Connor, was last seen in Weatherfield in 2019 following the tragic death of her partner Rana Habeeb, who died when the Underworld factory roof collapsed on what was meant to be their wedding day.

Ms Brookes has previously said she would be open to reprising her role.

She told The Express: "I get a lot of, ‘Why is Kate not coming back?’

"That’s a really lovely thing to have them want me to come back to Coronation Street, because I [Kate] didn’t die.

"I’m still alive and travelling, and those [were] doors left open.

"That’s an opportunity to be had in itself.

"I do love being able to play other characters—I really am continuing to stretch myself as an artist, and I want to keep doing that.

"[But] that door is open, [and] if that is in my journey, then great.

"It catapulted my career, so I never condemn it.

"I always celebrate it.

"That’s what the fans are doing for me at the same time.

"I’ve been so lucky to have gained such a lovely following from my time at Corrie—they’ve been nothing but supportive."

Since leaving Coronation Street, Ms Brookes has found success in theatre, with leading roles in shows including Chicago, The Sound of Music, Legally Blonde, and Shrek: The Musical.

She has also appeared in the play Double Double alongside Corrie co-star Daniel Brocklebank.

In her recent video, Ms Brookes explained that she will be in London until July due to current work commitments, but said she would reveal more about her new role soon.

The actress described life as "crazy" and said she was grateful for moments of calm while making plans with her agent and preparing for what lies ahead.

Whether or not the new job will see her return to the Coronation Street set remains to be seen, but fans will no doubt be watching closely for any further clues.
