YET more awards and titles went the way of Prestatyn Running Club members at the weekend – this time much closer to home.

For the first time, the Rhyl 10-mile race incorporated the North Wales championships and five of the nine Prestatyn RC members who turned out won age-group awards.

Not so lucky was Matty Smith, who clocked a personal best but, having forgotten to pay his championship entry fee, missed out on the senior men’s title.

The placings were: 9, Dean Longley 59.23 (2nd M35 in open race, 1st in champs); 19, Matty Smith 63.00; 24, Chris Yorke 64.06 (2nd M50 in open, 1st in champs); 46, James Rogers 69.00 (3rd M45 in champs); 75, Sian Beck 72.59 (pb, 2nd L40 in open, 1st in champs); 108, Darren Thompson 76.37 (3rd M50 in champs); 182, Steve Brown 82.31; 254, Mike Davis (1st M70 in champs); 527, Nem James 1-59.45.

Two more of the beginners’ group made their parkrun debuts at Conwy, taking the total who have run at least once to 16.

The outstanding individual performance came from Susan Jones, who took two minutes off her personal best.

Next Sunday it’s back to league action with the fifth fixture of the Borders Road-Running League at Birkenhead Park, with the men lying fourth in Division One and the ladies hoping to improve on their sixth place.
