BALA TOWN 0

CARDIFF MET 1

(After extra time)

THERE'S to be no Welsh Cup glory this season for Bala Town.

The Lakesiders departed the competition on Saturday in wet and windy conditions at Maes Tegid versus Cardiff Met.

In a tie of few opportunities, Roscrow went close for Cardiff Met, while Steven Tames combined with Henry Jones for Bala, but they were unable to break down the visitors' backline.

In a chance for Cardiff Met, Will Evans fired wide from 10 yards, prior to Andy Burns picking out Kieran Smith, who took the ball in his stride, but then stumbled and saw the opportunity go begging.

Before the interval, Tames forced Met keeper Evans to tip his attempt from the edge of the box over the crossbar.

With both teams looking to play football across the floor, they were both cancelling each other out, with more possession than chances on goal.

Kieran Smith’s cross in was pushed away by Evans, Tames pulled his shot wide from around 12 yards and a free kick ended up soaring over the crossbar.

In the 78th minute, Emlyn Lewis went incredibly close to opening the scoring for the away side.

His outrageous wind-assisted strike from his own half landed on the roof of the net.

Town had a massive opportunity to take the lead when Stuart J Jones rattled the crossbar in the final minute.

With the tie level at full-time, extra time was to follow and Bala should have taken the lead only three minutes in.

Tames went through on goal and with only the keeper to beat, he opted to square the ball to Henry Jones, but this pass was cleared by Emlyn Lewis.

The visitors took the lead on 98 minutes.

Matt Neale’s ball into the area was powered in at the far post by Eliot Evans.

Bala tried to get back level as Burke’s 25-yard shot dipped over the crossbar, followed by Mike Hayes’ close range chance being smothered by Evans, but it was too little too late for the Lakesiders.
