IT was eight versus eight as Rhewl travelled to Marchwiel Wrexham 2nds for their latest spot of North Wales Cricket League action.

Both teams were short-handed for the Division Four encounter and Rhewl were eventually edged out by two wickets in a tight encounter.

Batting first, Rhewl found themselves being dismissed for 41 in the 26th over.

Skipper David Bell (12 not out) was the only batsman to reach double figures, with Ted Probin (2-8), Jerry Wellens (2-10) and Nicholas Woodcock (2-10) doing the damage with the ball.

In reply, Marchwiel Wrexham struggled to 42-5 in the 21st over.

Key to their success were the efforts of Woodcock (15 not out) and Paul Baines (10).

Sharing the wickets for Rhewl were Gareth Morewood (2-10), Dyfan Parry (2-16) and Iwan Lloyd (1-5).

Thirteen points went the way of Marchwiel Wrexham, with Rhewl picking up a couple of points.
