CORWEN 92

GRESFORD 2NDS 102

WHAT an amazing game was witnessed at War Memorial Park over the weekend.

Corwen somehow suffered a defeat in their home North Wales Cricket League Division Two encounter at home to Gresford 2nds.

Neither of the sides managed to occupy the crease for more than 30 overs and more than half of the runs scored were contributed by just two players.

Tim Thompson struck 75 for Gresford, while Kevin Sharp top scored for Corwen with his knock of 45.

Elsewhere, it was pretty much ducks all round.

No fewer than seven Gresford batsmen were dismissed without troubling the scorers, with the visitors being bowled out for 102 in 29.3 overs.

Doing the damage with the ball for the home side were William Pooler (3-18), Simon Harrison (3-22), Iestyn Wheeler (2-1), Daniel Jones (1-32) and Liam Thomas (1-27).

Corwen's response got off to a solid start thanks to the efforts of Sharp and Daniel Jones (17).

However, these were the only two home batsmen to reach double figures during the second portion of the afternoon.

A total of five Corwen players would be dismissed for ducks, including the last three batsmen, and the hosts were bowled out for 92.

Amazingly, Anthony O'Neill finished on 0 not out - and he was batting at number seven!

Owain Walker (4-3) and Henry Soper (4-25) were Gresford's top bowlers.
