A LANDMARK was reached in Prestatyn Running Club’s 37-year history at the weekend when three members won individual awards in the Welsh Castles Relay – the first time more than a single member has managed it.

The 210-mile, 20-stage event from Caernarfon to Cardiff threw up its usual mix of brilliant racing, disappointments and camaraderie among the 65 clubs taking part – and the weather was just as mixed.

Steve Skates finished sixth on the first mountain stage, but he was the first veteran home, while Amie Bagnall repeated her 2017 success with another stage victory.

Sian Beck was the first veteran lady on the penultimate stage, but unfortunately her husband Gethin had to pull out with an injury, leaving the club unrepresented on stage 16.

He finished a highly creditable 19th out of 200 competitors.

Andy Bromley took up where he left off last year by winning the first of four races in Deestriders’ Off-Road Grand Prix at Shotton.

As in the previous week’s Deganwy Dash, 33 members turned out, forming the bulk of the 100-strong field.
