CAERWYS 2

RHEWL 3

DYFAN Lloyd's late header settled a topsy-turvy contest in favour of Rhewl.

That came in the concluding 10 minutes of the contest with Caerwys and it was enough to give Sion Roberts' charges their fourth win of the season.

However, Caerwys will feel aggrieved not to have picked anything up from the clash, especially considering they were the better side for much of it.

The heavy rain of last week meant that the Caerwys pitch was unplayable, so the match was switched to Rhewl.

Despite the deluge experienced during the days leading up to the game, the playing surface was superb.

Playing in orange, Caerwys had much of the early pressure and only desperate Rhewl defending stopped them from taking the lead.

At the other end, Matty Evans tried his luck from 30 yards, which went straight at the Caerwys keeper and the custodian did well to save Tom Howatson's powerful effort soon after.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 33rd minute.

Ian Williams makes it 1-0 to Rhewl.

Ian Williams got through on the right and he squeezed his effort in at the near post.

That made it a dozen goals this season for Rhewl's top scorer.

Rhewl had the ball in the net on one more occasion before the interval, but Dyfan Lloyd's effort was ruled out for pushing.

Caerwys came out for the second period in determined fashion and they were able to level things up nine minutes after the restart.

Rich-Mike Jones levels for Caerwys.

Nick Voyle played in the impressive Seth Geary and he pulled the ball across for Rich-Mike Jones to pick out the top corner of the net.

The visitors should have gone ahead when Nick Voyle was put in the clear, but on the stretch he fired well over the top.

The next goal came in the 71st minute and it was Rhewl who were celebrating.

Dan McClean regains the lead for Rhewl.

A free kick made its way to the back post and Dan McClean put his header into the far corner of the net.

Caerwys were determined to respond to this setback and they were presented with a great opportunity five minutes later.

A Rhewl handball in the box resulted in a penalty award and top scorer Ruari Wood sent keeper Dave Carroll the wrong way from the spot.

Ruari Wood's penalty makes it 2-2.

Caerwys went close to claiming the lead for the first time when an effort went narrowly wide of the target, before the game's pivotal moment arrived.

With eight minutes left to play, Matty Evans sent a long throw into the area and Dyfan Lloyd's back header made its way into the corner of the net.

Caerwys refused to throw in the towel and they went close to salvaging a point in the last minute, but Dave Carroll was in the right place to tip an effort over the crossbar.
