LLANGYNHAFAL 2

YSCEIFIOG 0

ONE down... four to go.

A tough run-in for Summer League championship hopefuls Llangynhafal began with their Thursday night tussle at home to in-form Ysceifiog.

The Flintshire side went into the contest boasting four wins from their previous six matches to climb into mid-table, while Llangynhafal hadn't suffered a defeat since the opening week of the campaign.

The 90 minutes were extremely hard-fought and there was very little between the two teams.

The first chance of the contest went the way of the hosts when Dyfan Humphreys' pinpoint cross picked out Tom Sharples, but he sent his header from 10 yards wide of the target.

At the other end, Keith Ainsworth tried his luck with an ambitious free kick from all of 35 yards that wasn't too far wide.

Llangynhafal threatened down the right once more as the half developed and Dan Smith's cross was just too high for Tom Seddon, who was lurking unmarked at the back post.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 29th minute.

Garmon Hafal scores from the spot.

A foul in the box resulted in a penalty being awarded to Llangynhafal and top scorer Garmon Hafal stepped forward to score from the spot.

As the half drew to a close, Owain McKee tried his luck from distance for Llangynhafal, with the visiting keeper pulling off a decent save.

Llangynhafal went close to stretching their advantage after the restart.

Tom Dyer's free kick from 30 yards was destined for the corner of the net until the Ysceifiog number one pulled off a top drawer save.

Then came the game's pivotal moment.

Tom Cummings hitting the post.

Ysceifiog turned defence into attack in the blink of an eye and a long ball forward had the home defence in all sorts of trouble.

With Llangynhafal keeper Dylan Jones, Tom Cummings send a header towards goal, but he could only look on in anguish as the ball hit the post before being gathered by Jones.

Had the ball gone into the net, there is a good chance that Ysceifiog would have claimed a point on the night.

However, as it turned out, Llangynhafal managed to double their lead with 20 minutes left to play.

Dyfan Humphreys burst through on the left and from a tight angle, he squeezed a precise left-footed effort into the far corner of the net.

Dyfan Humphreys slots in Llangynhafal's second.

For much of the remaining time, Ysceifiog were on the front foot, but Llangynhafal defended resolutely to see out win number 13 for the campaign.
