ST ASAPH 2NDS 223-6

CONNAH'S QUAY 2NDS 86

DESPITE the fact they only had 10 players at their disposal, it still turned out to be a successful Saturday for promotion chasing St Asaph 2nds.

Looking to take over at the top of Division Three in the North Wales Cricket League, the unbeaten Saints welcomed lowly Connah's Quay 2nds to Elwy Grove Park.

Quay's Jack Griffiths was in scintillating form for his side, but St Asaph still had enough about them to claim a maximum 15 points on the day.

Connah's Quay skipper Calum Jones was victorious during the pre-match toss and he invited St Asaph to bat first.

This didn't turn out to be the greatest of decisions from the perspective of Jones, with a number of terrific efforts seeing the batsmen take the total beyond the 200 mark.

Batting at number three, Andrew Pierce cracked 16 boundaries in his terrific innings of 82.

Further fine innings came from the likes of Dominic Haynes (42), Amer Jamil (41) and Charlie Williams (15) as St Asaph's 45 overs yielded 223-6.

Claiming the wickets for Connah's Quay were Jack Griffiths (2-28), Cole Hooson (2-34), Aaron Pearson (1-45) and Matthew Jones (1-56).

Turning to the second portion of the afternoon and the main performers turned out to be Jack Griffiths and Amer Jamil.

Turning firstly to Griffiths and he contributed almost three-quarters of Connah's Quay's reply.

He made a brilliant 64 not out as the visitors were restricted to 86 in 16 overs.

Five of the batsmen were dismissed for ducks and the main reason for this was the display of Amer Jamil.

He finished up with a scintillating 7-28 haul from just eight overs.

Also among the wickets for St Asaph were John Lloyd Williams (1-20) and Charlie Williams (1-38).

On the back of this win, leaders St Asaph now find themselves 14 points clear of title rivals Mold 2nds.
