HAWARDEN PARK 104-2

RUTHIN 103

A NUMBER of Ruthin batsmen enjoyed decent starts during Saturday's North Wales Cricket League Division One trip to Hawarden Park.

However, nobody was able to go on and contribute a telling tally as Ruthin slipped to an eight-wicket defeat.

It was always going to be a tough challenge for the Memorial Park Fields outfit against a side who were plying their trade in the Premier Division last year.

After winning the toss, Hawarden Park opted to spend the first portion of the afternoon in the field.

Half-a-dozen Ruthin batsmen reached double figures, but none of them managed to reach 20.

Leading the way for the visitors were opener Duncan Roberts (16), Will Jones (14), skipper Rhys Hilditch (13), Josh Duckworth (10), Murray Whitehead (10) and Llyr Williams (10).

Ruthin eventually found themselves being bowled out for 103 in the 37th over of their innings.

Doing the bulk of the damage with the ball was Ian Martin, who claimed a fantastic 5-19 from his 12 overs.

Campbell Marr bagged 3-32.

Hawarden Park weren't about to hang around in their reply and they required fewer than 20 overs to reach a winning 104-2.

David Hughes (33) and Campbell Marr (32) were the main contributors to the chase.

Wickets from Dafydd Hughes (1-13) and Llyr Williams (1-27) made sure that Ruthin picked up a point from their efforts.
