LLANDUDNO 3

CORWEN 1

THERE couldn't have been a much tougher start to the JD Cymru North season for Corwen.

After winning promotion to tier two, Corwen’s first league game was against Llandudno, who had been relegated from the Welsh Premier at the end of the previous season.

The hosts normally wear black and white stripes for home games, but a delay in receiving the kit from the manufactures meant they had to wear their burgundy away kit for this encounter.

This saw Corwen sporting their new green away kit to avoid a clash with their home colours of red and black.

There was a brilliant start for Danny Jellicoe's visitors.

With eight minutes on the clock, Corwen were presented with a glorious chance to break the deadlock when they were awarded a penalty.

Joe Williams made no mistake as he sent Shaun Pearson the wrong way from the spot to give his side the lead and spark chants of ‘green army’ from the visiting supporters.

This lead was short-lived, though, and Llandudno levelled things up within three minutes.

A great ball forward was collected by home captain Daniel Hughes, who found the back of the net from close range.

Corwen looked to respond and Joe Williams appeared to be bundled over in the box as he chased a cross from Eilir Edwards, but the referee waved away Corwen’s penalty claims.

Eleven minutes from the break and Llandudno claimed the lead.

Daniel Hughes got around a defender too easily, which enabled him to place the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

In the closing stages of the opening period, Kyle Jones played the ball to Scott Evans, who curled an effort at the goal and this forced Pearson into a diving save.

Turning to stoppage time and Daniel Hughes went in search of a hat-trick when he curled a 30-yard shot at goal from near the touchline, but Dylan Jones was able to make a save.

Llandudno were on the front foot when the second half started, with Robert Parry shooting over the bar under pressure from Adam Williams.

Soon after, Parry crossed the ball into the box, where Anthony Marshall's close range header went into Dylan Jones' grasp.

It was effectively game over when Llandudno made it 3-1 with 11 minutes left.

Daniel Hughes who crossed to Dean Seager, who hit a first time shot into the back of the net.
