CONWY BOROUGH 1

RUTHIN TOWN 1

A FINE finish from Llyr Morris ensured that Ruthin Town made a point on their travels over the weekend.

Top scorer Morris bagged a 73rd minute leveller as Chris Hardy's charges secured a 1-1 draw during their JD Cymru North trip to Conwy Borough. Tom Dyer, Dafydd Evans and captain Ilan Hughes came into the Ruthin team for the match.

Ruthin started well, with Wil Owen seeing a lot of the ball and he created a good chance for Gwion Owen, who was just offside.

Good work from Osian Davies set up Llyr Morris for the next chance, with the home keeper saving with his legs at the near post.

However, it was Conwy who claimed the opening goal on 32 minutes.

Predictably, it came via a sensational 30-yard chip from top scorer Corrig McGonigle.

Borough almost doubled their advantage just before the interval when Cory Williams played in McGonigle, but this time the forward found Ruthin keeper Ryan Goldston in fine form and the danger was averted.

Conwy went close once again after the break.

A rousing effort from Tomos Clarke rattled the crossbar on 53 minutes.

Borough threatened yet again around the hour mark when a long-range attempt from Craig Whelan struck the upright.

Ruthin were also making their presence felt and they finally pegged their hosts back with less than 20 minutes left to play.

A long ball over the top released Llyr Morris, who beat his man and fired into the corner of the net in clinical fashion. The game ended with both teams trying to win it, but they couldn’t find that final gilt-edged chance to settle matters.

This was Ruthin's fourth draw of the season and they occupy 11th spot in the standings, just four points behind fifth-placed Conwy.
