RUTHIN TOWN 3

BUCKLEY TOWN 1

WIN number three for the season was safely secured by Ruthin Town over the weekend.

Chris Hardy's charges eased to a 3-1 home win over Buckley Town, which moved Ruthin up to eighth in the JD Cymru North standings.

Ahead of the kick-off, there was a reshuffle in the Ruthin backline.

Tom Sharples came in as a centre half for his first start of the season.

He was joined in the heart of the defence by Matty Evans and both of them performed very well on the day.

The home Town started the match well, with skipper Ilan Hughes, Osian Davies and Alex Webster dominating things in midfield.

Dafydd Evans, at right back, caused lots of problems for Buckley with his pace going forward throughout the 90 minutes.

Ruthin claimed the lead in the 14th minute from an Ilan Hughes corner.

Wil Owen met the set piece at the front post and his header was bulleted into the the net to make it 1-0.

Ruthin continued on the front foot after this, with the pace of Gwion Owen and Llyr Morris causing problems for Bucks' back four.

It was two-nil in the 24th minute.

A good combination between Evans, Davies and Gwion Owen saw the ball being pulled the ball to Llyr Morris on the edge of box and his crisp low finish found the back of the net.

The remainder of the first half was comfortable for a Ruthin perspective and the home side only had to deal with a few threatening set pieces from Buckley.

Turning to the second period and Morris had a good chance to make it three-nil on the hour mark.

He was played in after good work by Wil Owen, but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

This incident seemed to finally wake Buckley up and they had a couple of goals chalked off for offside in the space of 10 minutes, while they also hit the post.

Ruthin keeper Ryan Goldston pulled off a good save with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining to deny Buckley a certain goal from a header.

The visitors were back in the match 90 seconds later when a striker made the most of a poor kick by Goldston.

However, Ruthin managed to make the points safe with a couple of minutes left.

Llyr Morris was brought down in the box by the Buckley keeper for a penalty to be awarded and this was converted by Ilan Hughes to seal the deal.
