THE Borders Road-Running League got off to a brilliant start for Prestatyn Running Club at Caernarfon on Sunday, with a record turnout of 38 members in a total field of 352.

There was quality as well as quantity, with 11 finishers in the first 100 and 11 claiming pbs for the 10k distance.

The race marked a League debut for four, including young second-claimer Troy Kettle, who had a fine run, and the latest recruit Will Williams.

At 82, Roger Harrison-Jones is the oldest competitor to complete a race in the history of the league.

The men’s team finished fourth in Division One and the women were sixth.

Amie Bagnall missed the race as she was still feeling the after-effects of her efforts the previous day when she finished a very creditable 24th in the Cardiff Cross Challenge race against top-class opposition.

Shelley Ward, another member enjoying a new lease of life at the moment, joined the big field for the Manchester half-marathon, clocking 1-41.42 in 1,738th position.

On Saturday, a group of members travelled to Llangefni for the Nant y Pandy Parkrun, in support of Emma Birchall’s Feel, Find, Mind campaign to highlight breast cancer.

Josh Cerefice won the event in 19.09, and was followed by Steve Weedman (eighth, 22.33), Debbie Weedman (33rd, 30.27), Clare Manley (39th, 31.32) and Emma herself (44th, 32.40).
