CORWEN 1

LLANGEFNI TOWN 2

ALTHOUGH they took the lead, it wasn't a successful JD Cymru North weekend for Corwen during their home clash with Llangefni Town.

Corwen manager Sion Tudor was able to name an unchanged team for his first home game in charge on a wet and chilly Saturday afternoon.

The visitors’ first attempt at goal came when the ball was played across the edge of the D and it was collected by Callum McMinimee, who fired his shot over the bar.

The deadlock was broken in the 21st minute and it was Corwen who were celebrating.

Scott Evans' corner was met by Dale Davies and when his header was cleared off the line, the rebound fell to Harry Pooler, who was able to head the ball home.

Pooler tried to turned provider when he launched a ball forward and a defender slid in to get a toe to it, but he couldn’t stop it from going to Tom Williams.

He played it across the face of the goal, which was cut out by the Llangefni defence with Joe Williams and Ryan Billington in hot pursuit.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Llangefni levelled things up.

Jamie Roberts evaded three tackles before looping the ball high into the air from the edge of the box.

It looked as if it was going way over the bar, only for the ball to drop at the last second and go into the top corner of the net to level the score.

The home side looked to restore their lead early in second period as they attacked the Llangefni defence and the ball was played across to Eilir Edwards, who sent his shot narrowly over the bar.

At the other end, Jamie Roberts tried his luck again from the edge of the box, but this time his effort went just over the crossbar.

In the 52nd minute, a corner was played into the Corwen box, where Callum McMinimee collected the ball with his back to goal in the six-yard box.

He played it to Matthew Jones, who found the back of the net from close range.

Corwen looked to respond and a long ball forward was run on to by Tom Williams, who was able to get beyond the last defender and he sent a low shot at goal.

This looked to be in all the way, but it went narrowly wide of the far post.

Two minutes later and the ball was cleared into the path of Scott Evans, whose edge of the box shot took a deflection and dropped into the grasp of keeper Tyler French.

At the other end, Llangefni’s Cai Roberts was able to get beyond Nathan Davies on the wing and his ball into the danger area was being chased down by Matthew Jones, but keeper Nathan Roberts won the race.

There were some nervy moments in the Corwen box when a corner was spilled by Nathan Roberts, however Ryan Billington was able to clear the danger.

As the game entered the final four minutes, Scott Evans floated a free kick from near the touchline into the 18-yard box, where Harry Pooler headed the ball over the bar.

A ball played into the visitors’ box was chased down by sub Tom Mann, but he saw his angled shot saved by Tyler French.

In stoppage time, the home side were awarded a free kick in a promising position, but Scott Evans could only send the ball harmlessly wide of the far post.
