LLANDYRNOG UNITED 1

HOLYHEAD HOTSPUR 6

IT was a job for Llandyrnog United to keep up with the Joneses over the weekend.

Holyhead Hotspur are eyeing up this season's Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division One crown and they strengthened their push for the top honour with a comfortable 6-1 success at Llandyrnog United.

Three players called Jones netted in the opening period to put the Anglesey side in the box seat and the victory saw them move back to the top of the Division One table.

A powerful start saw Hotspur build up a two-goal lead inside the opening 10 minutes.

The deadlock was broken in just the fifth minute when Alex Jones found the back of the net and it was 2-0 just three minutes later via Chris Jones.

A 10th win of the campaign was secured by Holyhead as they added a further two goals before the half-time whistle was sounded.

Cory Jones made it 3-0 in the 24th minute, before the visitors missed a penalty with 13 minutes of the opening period remaining.

An own goal stretched the lead to four-nil in the 44th minute.

Holyhead were keen for further goals when the second half got underway and Dion Parry made it 5-0 in the 63rd minute.

To their credit, Llandyrnog didn't throw in the towel and they did have a goal to celebrate with a quarter-of-an-hour left to play.

Eddie Evans was the United player who found the target after being set up by Chris Evans.

However, the final word would belong to high-flying Holyhead, with Rob Jones bagging the visitors' sixth goal with 10 minutes left to play.

Llandyrnog remain in the bottom-two in the standings, although they are still in touch with the sides immediately above them.
