GWALCHMAI 2

LLANNEFYDD 0

IT'S been almost two months since Llannefydd took to the field in Division Two of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League.

Since tackling Y Felinheli in the league on October 5, it's been all about knockout competitions for Llan.

Continuing this theme last Saturday, Gwyndaf Pritchard's charges had a tough trip to Gwalchmai in the second round of this season's Take Stock Van Hire Challenge Cup.

In the end, a goal in each half did the trick to see Division Two leaders Gwalchmai through to the next round by a 2-0 margin.

The league frontrunners had to be at their resolute best to book their place in the hat at the expense of a side that is expected to be challenging strongly during the second half of the campaign, on the back of a number of new signings, including experienced centre half Miles Todd from Denbigh Town.

The home side managed to take a slender one-goal cushion into the interval.

The vital goal came on 36 minutes when Cory Sinnott found the back of the net.

After the break, both sides spurned good opportunities as things remained tight.

Llannefydd threw caution to the wind in pursuit of a route back into the tie late on, but they were undone for the second time in the 86th minute.

This came courtesy of prolific striker Marc Evans, who has been in relentless form of late and he came up with another impressive strike to decide the tie.
