BORRAS PARK ALBION 3

CAERWYS 4

CAERWYS took a trip up to Borras Park Albion under the care of newly appointed caretaker manager Jordan Hadaway for their latest Clwyd League (East) contest.

In the past few games, Caerwys had failed to pick up any points, so the visitors were under the pressure to compete and gain points.

Caerwys got off to a slow start and they conceded two goals within the space of 10 minutes.

These were scored by Ryan Price and Jack Hanley.

The first chance for Caerwys came after 20 minutes, with Ryan Bradley firing the ball across the box and Elgan Hughes just missed out on a touch to guide it towards goal.

As the half progressed, Caerwys grew with confidence on and off the ball and they started to gain a foothold in the match, causing Borras Park Albion some problems just before half-time.

At the interval, manager Hadaway changed the formation and personnel on the pitch, with Ryan Bradley and Alex Harrison Smith making way for Sean Cotrell and Ruari Wood.

As the second half got underway, both of these substitutions made a massive impact on the game.

With all 11 players battling hard, it wasn’t long before Caerwys pulled a goal back.

A ball was played through for Theo Woolford Dyer to take it around the keeper and make the scoreline 2-1.

Caerwys maintained the pressure and they kept Borras in the own half.

Tom Cummings and Lewis Evans played the ball into Elgan Hughes and Sean Cottrell and it was only a matter of time before the second goal came.

A great strike by Tom Cummings did make it two-apiece.

The game progressed with both sides battling hard to get themselves ahead, but Borras Park couldn’t really cope with the pace and movement of the front four of Caerwys.

The visitors had multiple chances, but it was Borras who scored next through Dan McGinnis as they regained the lead in the 82nd minute.

Caerwys didn't let their heads drop and in the 90th minute, Sean Cottrell's free kick was headed home by Kieran Smith.

Both sides felt the three points were still there for the taking and Caerwys completed their epic fightback in injury time.

Elgan Hughes' shot took a deflection on its way into the goal.

Reflecting on the game, Caerwys manager Jordan Hadaway said: “It was a disappointing slow start which put us on the back foot from the off.

"I am so proud of the players after our half-time regrouping to have gone back out and shown determination, will and hard work to win the game.

"It was probably the best comeback we’ve had all season.

"We need to build on this result going into next week's game against Bellevue at home.”
