PORTHMADOG RESERVES 2

DENBIGH TOWN RESERVES 3

THREE second half goals saw Denbigh Town Reserves overcome Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Reserves' Division leaders Porthmadog and take over at the top.

Two goals from the league's top scorer Andy Thomas and one from Lewis Jenner were enough to claim the points for Denbigh against a young Porthmadog team.

The first half saw a number of excellent chances, with neither side able to get on the scoresheet.

Denbigh had the first chance when a superb crossfield ball from Sion Jones found Andy Thomas, whose shot went just over the bar from 10 yards. Porthmadog responded and they had a series of shots, none of which found the target.

Both Gwion Bibby and Ciarian Lucas were forced to make last ditch tackles to thwart Porthmadog attacks as the hosts piled on the pressure.

At the other end an Owen Heath corner found Sion Jones in space and his shot went just over.

A few minutes later and Andy Thomas' effort went over as Denbigh searched for the opening goal.

Within two minutes of the start of the second half, Denbigh were ahead from a well struck shot by Andy Thomas.

Back came Port and they soon had an equaliser through Arwyn Jones.

Denbigh upped the ante and they took control of the game on 69 minutes.

Andy Thomas set up Lewis Jenner and his right-footed shot from 18 yards looped over keeper Williams and into the net.

Sion Davies battled his way into the penalty area on 81 minutes and he was brought to the ground unfairly, with referee Meirion Williams pointing to the penalty spot.

Up stepped Andy Thomas to blast the ball into the net and give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Porthmadog claimed one back in the 89th minute when Cameron Jones slotted in from close range.

However, Denbigh held firm and played out the last few minutes to claim a valuable three points.
