DENBIGH TOWN 5

FIVE-STAR Denbigh Town could not have wished for a better outcome over the weekend.

Town travelled to Llanberis looking for a win to keep them in the mix towards the top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division One standings.

Denbigh were on top from the off and two early goals set them on the way to a comfortable 5-0 triumph.

With midfielders Will Ashley and Jacob Barrett unavailable manager Dewi Llion had to reshuffle his pack, so Moses Barnett went into the centre of the defence alongside Billy Holmes, while Jon Terry pushed up into midfield.

The game kicked off on a murky afternoon, but the Denbigh lads could not have had a brighter start.

The visitors attacked from kick off and with just four minutes on the clock, Mark Roberts set up the incoming Chris Bennett to a half-volley into the roof of the net.

Tall goalkeeper Will Williams was beaten by the sheer power of the shot and this great goal made sure it was a great start for Denbigh.

With Town on top, Mark Roberts' volley went just over the bar soon after, before the goal of the game arrived.

After good work from Chris Bennett and Sion Jones, Walker ran in to meet a cross under pressure from central defender Gethin Wakeham.

However, he headed the ball perfectly and it hit the back of the net with 10 minutes gone.

Llanberis pressed Denbigh after this, but they could not get near the goal, with Billy Holmes commanding in the air and making some great blocks and interceptions.

The hosts did go close from a corner, with Wakeham's drive just a foot the wrong side of the post.

At the other end, Walker threatened once more and his low short was met by a good save from keeper Williams, who stretched out his left leg to keep the ball away.

Another Denbigh goal did arrive just before half-time.

Mark Roberts dodged two defenders during a run and when the ball bobbled away from him slightly, Walker took the opportunity to turn and hit in a low effort to make it 3-0.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with Denbigh in firm control.

Walker claimed his hat-trick after some clever quick thinking.

The ball came in from the left wing and found Walker, but Will Williams sprinted out and slide tackled the forward to knock the ball away.

Walker was the quickest to respond and his back heel from nine yards out rolled over the line and into an empty goal.

On 84 minutes, Chris Bennett not only rounded off a top class personal display, but he rounded the Llanberis keeper before slotting the ball home to make it a convincing 5-0 victory for Denbigh Town.
