DENBIGH TOWN'S Jake Walker has been awarded the last ever Welsh Alliance One top scorer prize.

The prolific forward hit 23 league goals during a the curtailed 2019/20 season, as Town finished second in the division.

With the Football Association of Wales (FAW) having shaken up the look of leagues across the country for 2020/21, the Welsh Alliance One and Two as we know it will become defunct.

The tier three league Denbigh Town will continue to play in will become the Ardal North West League instead and will also feature the likes of Llanrwst United, St Asaph City and Llanuwchllyn among others.

During the last ever End Of Season Awards held recently by the Welsh Alliance League, the executive committee officially named Denbigh's Walker as the Welsh Alliance One top scorer.

Despite the season being cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, the forward proved to be lethal throughout for the club leading up to that point in the season.

Walker hit more goals then he ever has done before, hitting 23 goals in just 17 matches, whilst also bagging a further 14 in cup matches, taking his total for the 2019/20 to an incredible 37 goals.

Speaking about their talisman, a Denbigh Town Football Club spokesperson said: "As we all know the season was cut short due to this terrible situation we find ourselves in because of the Covid pandemic but still Jake scored more goals this past campaign than any other season. He was banging goals in with his right, left, head or whatever and certainly knew where the net was despite close marking by opposition defenders.

"We are all waiting on news on when the season will restart but despite rumours flying around we still do not know when that will be. However, players are back in training now and already look fit and sharp. Everyone is eager to get going and fans will be looking for more goals from Jake that's for sure."
